For those of you who are happy to have all the political talk in the past, I have some bad news… It’s only getting started. If you’re a Trump supporter, I wouldn’t celebrate until after December 19th. That’s the day the Electoral College will cast its votes.
We already know that the Democrats will go full bore against the Electoral College; however, they are first going to attempt to use it to their advantage. They’ve started a petition to get electors to switch their vote from Trump to Hillary. Can they do this? Yes, but I encourage you to read the details in an excellent article written by Tara Ross: What to make of Change.org’s “faithless elector” petition
This attempt by the left is a long shot, with a 99.9% chance of failure (see another Tara Ross article: Faithless Electors for Hillary: Not Going to Happen); however, knowing how the left operates, I’m sure there is wheeling, dealing, and corrupting in the background. When things don’t go their way, they won’t stop. They are very well organized and are backed by big money donors.
If successful in their attempt to change the December 19th results, they will accomplish two things: The first one is obvious, Hillary becomes President. The second item is less obvious, but even worse. If they overturn Trump in the Electoral College, how do you think people on the right will respond? They’ll quickly turn against the Electoral College.
The second item is my biggest worry. Whether in this election, or future, there will be a time when Republicans find themselves in the same position as the Democrats. We’ll then hear again the same whining against the Electoral College.
No matter what happens in any election, stand with the Electoral College. Losing the Supreme Court is bad, but losing the Electoral College is worse. If we lose the Electoral College, then California and New York will determine the results of future elections. Let that last sentence sink in a bit… Some states, like Texas and Florida will still have a little sway, but what about the others? Smaller states, or big states with small populations, will lose all representation in the election process.
The founders blessed us with an awesome system of government that protects us from ourselves. It’s a system of laws that understands the fallen nature of man. Without this system, we are left with the failed forms of government from the past that work against the rights of all people.
